In their endeavor to take care of Jesus’ flock, the Verbum Dei Missionary Fraternity in Cebu, Philippines conducted a 4-day Silent Retreat to their disciples last August 21-24, 2014 in the VD Retreat House in Good Shepherd, Banawa, Cebu City.
The group was composed of different realities from different apostolates from youth to working singles to couples. This retreat was intended to those disciples who were not able to attend the National Family Silent Retreat in Musuan, Bukidnon last May 1-5 as well as in preparation for the upcoming Disciples’ Commitment this coming August 31, 2014.
The theme of the retreat was “Go and make disciples; baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” (Mt. 29: 19). The retreat was facilitated by Fr. Michael Chong, FMVD, Sr. Gaby Rocha, FMVD, and Bro. Darwin Capuras, FMVD. Each day was intensely beset with spiritual exercises of the different Truths of the Catholic Faith from morning until evening in complete silence with different focus every day. The first day focused on the Trinity in Us in the morning then Mystical Body in the afternoon. The second day was devoted entirely in listening to God the Father. The third day was devoted to God the Son with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the evening. After the exposition, some volunteers were asked to share the fruit of their prayer and of their experience to everyone. Each of these three days was being culminated with a Holy Mass and an Examination of Prayer in the evening. In the fourth day, the group was being joined by the rest of the members of VDMFa as it was also the monthly disciples’ silent retreat. The theme is the same but the focus of spirituality that day was about God the Holy Spirit and Mother Mary. The fourth day was being culminated in an Ecclesial Eucharistic Celebration in the afternoon with a send off blessing to Sr. Juvy Tenorio, FMVD to her new assignment in Spain.
